Working With Wire

Wire is a fun versatile medium that can add a lot of texture and dimension to any mixed media project. Try these fun projects to get you started!
Wire Art Owl Topper
Instead of topping a gift with just a bow try adding a simple wire shape to add a bit of whimsy.
The example here shows a simple wire owl with the caption… “Owl You Need is ART.”
Alternatives include a wire birthday cake, wire words like smile or surprise, or even a heart or flower.
Wire Art Owl XOX
In keeping with the owl theme – try creating a wire owl sculpture that sits atop a vintage bobbin.
Add a bit of paper and fabric and some simple stitching to complete this project.
Wire Art Dreaming Heart
A vintage pop top tab makes a perfect base for this heart shaped sculpture.
Add your favorite quote or saying on vintage paper (note the font was done using a vintage typewriter) that is stitched onto a bit of wool.
Note how the wire tail is weaved through the quote and then finishes in a swirl.
Wire Art Bobbin Bird Cage
You can use a variety of vintage findings for bases to your wire sculptures (pop tops, lids, wheels, and bobbins are just a few ideas).
When creating this wire bird cage I took advantage of the holes in the bobbin to anchor the ends of the cage and added a simple curl to the ends to finish the look.
Add a short piece of wire to the top with some swirls to create visual balance.
As an alternative you could add a simple word to the top or tuck it inside the cage to add even more interest.
Wire Art Bird Gem
Who wouldn’t love getting this little gem?
To embellish any package or gift add a simple wire shape along with a fun surprise.
In this case I added a bird shaped wire embellishment along with a paint brush to a decorated gift popper.
Wire Art Dreams Wings
Give a small gift with a big impact.
Create a wire nest with a few pearls and a simple saying to the top of any gift to create the perfect impression.
Wire Art Butterfly
Wire Art Flower
Create a wire Egg-stravaganza.
Start by creating your wire sculpture – add a bit of glitter or some vintage paper to create texture and dimension.
Use a decorated upside down egg crate to serve as the base.
